Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a middle school and am the lead advisor for the National Junior Honor Society on campus. Each year we select students for our chapter using the five pillars of NJHS as our basis. Students must exemplify excellence in scholarship, leadership, citizenship, character, and service. The selection process is challenging for the students but prepares them for the rigor of the scholarship and college application process in high school.
I strive to instill the core values of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, character, and service in all members.
My goal is to make sure that they leave middle school as well-rounded students, but more importantly as decent human beings.
Community is everything. I stress the importance of giving back to our community in almost everything we do. The students focus on projects that better our students, our school, our community, and even society in general. Our chapter members care about others and their dedication to service far surpasses the small goals I personally set for them. I expect nothing but amazing things from these young scholars.
My Project
"LEAD Conferences are energizing weekends unlike any other, where students and advisers alike can experience interactive training, motivation, and networking with peers from far and wide. Come to sharpen your skills, engage in meaningful collaboration, and share innovative ideas about serving your community—and leave with everything you need to enhance your leadership."
This will be an experience of a lifetime for my N.J.H.S.
leaders. This conference will allow them to gain vital leadership skills and the how-to knowledge that they can bring back to our school campus and put into action. Our organization focuses on five pillars: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. Attending this conference will reinforce these pillars and allow the leaders to engage in change.
