Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are motivated and eager to learn. They enjoy being read to and after they have heard books read to them, they enjoy reading them on their own. They enjoy literature and discussing books. They have a wonderful knack for connecting personal experiences with the literature they have read. They are learning a second language and developing their vocabulary every day. My end in mind is to develop the love of reading that will take my students on great adventures.
I teach 24 first grade, second language learners who are living in a low income community in Los Angeles.
Our school is a Title I school with students from preschool to fifth grade. At our school, we strive to instill the idea in our students that they are thinkers, leaders, and change makers. We are the first Leader in Me school in our area, and we are very proud to be developing Thinkers, Leaders and Change Makers!
My Project
My students are developing a Leader in Me notebook. They work on this notebook throughout the year. Some of the students’ most important work gets put into these notebooks.
We would like to have heavy duty hole punches to be able to constantly punch holes in the papers that have to go into the binder.
Our binder is a showpiece for parent conferences, data talks, and when we have guest visiting out class.
We'd also like bulletin board accents, posters, and boarders to use to showcase my students’ work. The fine point Sharpie markers will be used to finalize my students’ writing. In addition, we would like book rings to level our fluency reading passages.
