A lot of new learning happens in third grade. The students in our classrooms want to learn and are very eager to learn in many different ways. We enjoy learning through reading, projects, technology, and each other.
There are 100 students in third grade this year that are learning how to be a good leader.
We are learning to to be leaders following The Leader in Me framework. The students are learning how to be a leader but also will be reading biographies about great leaders.
These books will make a difference in the student's learning because they will be able to read about an important leader that also follows the same leadership habits as The Leader in Me program.
These biography books are individuals that the students already know about and have some background knowledge on.
If the students already have background knowledge about a person they are more likely going to want to find out more information about that person. The students will then become an "expert" about their leader and present the information to other student, parents and members of the community.
The students will complete research on an important leader. Then they will write about that person's life following the writing process. Finally, they will present their information to demonstrate what they learned along with how these leaders live The Leader in Me leadership habits that we are incorporating into our lives.
