My Students
Our students are so excited about leading and learning! We are a "Leader in Me" school focused on goal-setting, personal responsibility, and synergizing with others. An integral part of this growth is reading a variety of texts and learning strategies that will be used across all genres.
Our goal is to provide engaging texts at all levels and in many different genres for our students to make optimal growth in reading.
Our school serves students from hard-working families and has a high percentage of free and reduced price lunch. We also have a growing ESL population. Help our eager readers become leaders!
My Project
These picture books are all based on social studies concepts that students will be learning throughout the year. Many of our students lack the background knowledge that prepares them to learn new science and social studies concepts. Books such as Silent Witness and Katie's Trunk give students some background knowledge on a topic like the Revolutionary War or the Civil War before they begin learning specifics through nonfiction texts.
These fiction picture books will build a bridge so students can access new social studies concepts with ease.
Students become more engaged in concepts when they can connect them to fiction stories they've read.
