This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a beautiful, rural county in Georgia. As a teacher in a low-income school, I teach students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I have the privilege to teach a wonderful group of 12 second graders who come from many diverse backgrounds. My students are wonderfully creative and so very energetic. They are so very loving and eager to learn. Majority of our school population receive free lunch and breakfast at school. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep learning fun and engaging for my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that will encourage them to learn. They may be faced with many challenges in and out of the classroom, but I want to show them they are the best and that they deserve the best.
My Project
We are fortunate enough to be a Leader in Me school which focuses on empowering students with leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. Leader in Me helps students learn how to become self-reliant, take initiative, plan ahead, set and track goals, do their homework, prioritize their time, manage their emotions, be considerate of others, express their viewpoint persuasively, resolve conflicts, find creative solutions, value differences, and live a balanced life. I would love to have books that focus on empowering students with the 7 habits that will help them in their daily lives.
Having books in the classroom that promote leadership skills will change the culture of my classroom for the better.
My students will be able to change the culture of the school with the ideas and habits that are found in these books. Help me display my student's unique strengths and leadership capabilities through read-alouds.
