My students need high quality texts to interact with to enhance their learning. Utilizing math based literacy will increase math knowledge. Time for Kids will help us with non-fiction comprehension.
I work in a Title i school in Central Florida! I teach in a classroom of 18 3rd graders and I am also a special education teacher to students in my class who need IEP services. Our school has a very high ELL population and quality materials are imperative for their success in the classroom.
My students are eager to learn and highly motivated students in a Leader in Me school.
Students in my class live the 7 Habits of Happy Kids and are extremely hard working and giving kids.
My Project
As we move into the new school year, we are working further into our district initiative of reading text, writing about text, and talking about text using collaborative learning. In order to get 3rd graders excited about text, I want to incorporate TIME for Kids into our ELA block. Getting kids to talk about current events and working together on answering questions about non-fiction test will help them increase their test preparation from the beginning of the year without making it feel like extra work.
Students from Title I Schools need more opportunities to engage in meaningful text.
Fulfilling this DonorsChoose proposal will allow my students the opportunity to engage in texts in a whole new way. Allowing them this chance to talk about texts across curriculum will help them understand that literacy is important. Math based literature will allow me to bring texts into my Math block to enhance understanding on their topics in the textbook.
Giving students these materials will overall increase their interest in reading and create a strong desire in literacy across all classes!
