My Students

What an accomplishment it is to be able to read an entire book in a foreign language for the first time! I want my French II kids to feel this at the end of the year by having a classroom set of one of the most loved stories in the francophone world.

My French II students are dynamic and full of enthusiasm!

They are hard workers and are very eager to learn. They love to read and are encouraged when they discover that they are really understanding a text. That is what inspired this project! My school has a large mix of kids, but no matter who they are, they will succeed in my class.

My Project

My students will read the story as a class bit by bit and do activities that promote comprehension. The story is captivating and I know my students will be very interested in them. They teach important lessons and provoke deep imaginative thinking. In addition, the students will learn to use context clues to figure out the meaning of unknown words, as well as gain the confidence to read a substantial amount of text and understand it. This is a classic story that should be integrated into the curriculum of every French program because of its importance in French culture.

By reading Le Petit Prince, the students will gain great insight to why literature like this is important to francophone people.

They will be let in on this gem of culture and therefore be more invested to learn more. They will be challenged and then gain great confidence about their ability to comprehend French.
