Mr. Lantz from Brooklyn NY is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an LCD projector to facilitate a more interactive method of experiencing and learning the Spanish and latino culture.

If we can't go to Spain, Central or South America, help me bring the language and culture into the inner city classroom so they can experience it more fully. Learning a foreign language is essential to be prepared for college.
My students are as varied as the countries where Spanish is spoken.
Some grew up in the same neighborhood as the school and others have moved over a thousand miles to the United States as recently as last month. Some of them come from big cities and others moved from a small town on a Caribbean island. One of my goals is for them to feel comfortable with the situation and the city where they now find themselves. Some are shy and some are very outgoing and need no encouragement to begin a conversation. One focus of the school that my students attend is to prepare them for college and to be leaders in their community and be aware of global issues. A great thing about teaching a world language is that every day we are looking outside the four walls of the school and wanting to see something of what the world is really like.
The ultra-portable projector that I am requesting will greatly benefit my students' learning experience. I believe that it will engage students from all the backgrounds that I previously mentioned. I want to project video clips of native speakers, personal interviews, Spanish shows or movies in order to bring the Hispanic culture right into the classroom in a way that every student can experience it. I will also be able to project various interactive websites such as Quia, Conjuguemos, StudyBulb, SpanishRomance, and others in order to show them how they can practice at home as well. I will use the projector to increase the clarity and size of the notes. My students will learn a variety of vocabulary and grammar but through the lens of famous Hispanic landmarks and artwork such as The Plaza de Espana of Sevilla, El Zocalo of Mexico City and Dali's Persistence of Memory (and of course many others).
Honestly, my students need to ready for college.
Learning a foreign language is essential to being college-ready. It is extremely difficult to teach Spanish without access to different media (video, art...) A projector will bring the world to the classroom and give my students a taste of Spanish-speaking cultures. Please consider partnering with me to see an increase of inner city students prepared for college and sincerely being interested in and respecting other cultures.
