Ms. Shen from Orange NJ is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My classroom needs a LCD projector to display presentations and math images from Geometer's Sketchpad on the computer.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach 9th and 10th grade students Algebra and Geometry classes in a low-income, high poverty suburban high school. Most of my students come from black and Hispanic families. Their parents are all hard working people and they want their kids do best at school. My students are highly motivated by various modern technologies. They come to school study with hopes that one day they could go to college and have exciting opportunities in the future. Currently my students do not interact with modern classroom technology on a regular basis. In order to add dynamic and interesting activities and encourage active learning, I plan to introduce more technologies into my classroom. For example, I will use Geometer’s Sketchpad application to create mathematic shapes, formulas, and animations on computer. This will help students learn algebra and geometry. But there is only one computer at teacher’s desk. If we have an LCD projector, I can use it project mathematic images and animations generated from Geometer’s Sketchpad to large screen, so all students in the classroom can see them. All of my students could explore how to use a computer and Geometer’s Sketchpad together. The LCD projector can have a lot of other use in our classroom. We could… • Engage in more dynamic lessons with videos and animated power-point presentations (created by both teachers and students) • Research on-line together in a safe and educational environment • Reduce the use and expense of paper, printer ink, markers, overheads, etc. In conclusion, having an LCD projector will make a substantial impact on my students, for improving their academic studies; achieving their dreams of going to college; and having bright futures in their lives! Thank you for your generosity and consideration.
