When the children come to our school, they all begin their day with a free breakfast. They come from a community where eighty-three percent of students are eligible for free and reduced-price lunch, however all children receive free breakfasts and lunches.
Over half of our students do not have broadband Internet so I hand out packets of information along with to go meals.
My students come from very rural areas. They describe with joy all of the animals they see at home including deer, goats, cattle, and chicken, and how they feed them.
With all it brings, I am proud to be from Louisiana, proud to be from a rural parish, and humbled to teach impoverished children. Let's give those children a fighting chance to be the best they can be!
My Project
The Doodlers can dominate by using the boogie boards. On the boogie boards students can doodle, write, and do math. The best part is that if they make a mistake they don’t have to throw the paper away, just shake it away.
The doodle board is optimal in the first days of school, especially with a shy student.
Currently, our school has students two days a week. A teacher can ask students to draw their favorite toy at home, and bridge the gap between school and home by talking to the student about what they drew. Conversing about school and home is the key to a great relationship between the teacher and the student.
