Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I strive to be an effective educator who can serve her students in the best way possible. I am constantly looking for opportunities to sharpen my skills so that I may be able to share my love of reading with all of the students that I teach. For the past 24 years, I have taught students that have had so many limited experiences. I teach in a high poverty school and some of these students have never seen a book until they started school. I want to them to understand that being a strong reader will be able to expand their horizons and lead them to so many joyful experiences.

It is vital to get these students hooked on reading at an early age. Educational research shows that children who have a strong foundation in literacy are more successful and encounter better opportunities. I believe that all of my students can be successful if given the right tools to help them succeed.
My Project
I would love to be able to attend this conference and come back to my school and present a Professional Development workshop to all faculty and staff. Literacy is vital to preparing our students to be successful learners.
By using the best and most up-to-date strategies that have been researched-based by the top literacy specialists in the field, it will ensure that alll of my students are receiving high-quality instruction.
My students will benefit from this training because I will implement all relevant strategies to help them become successful readers. By laying a strong foundation in phonics and reading, the students will become confident readers who won't be afraid too take risk while reading.
