Head Start is a high quality preschool program for 3 to 5-year-old students, at no cost to their families. We teach a group of at-risk 4-year-old students, and our primary goal is to prepare our students for Kindergarten. Enrollment in our program gives them many fun and engaging activities including a story time, small group lessons, free choice time, music and movement, art, outside time, breakfast, lunch and snack, and a rest time.
Head Start is a federally-funded educational program for eligible 3 to 5-year-old children.
Our building holds four Head Start classrooms, two three-year-old classrooms and two four-year-old classrooms. We work every day on helping our students become children who are ready to succeed in kindergarten. In addition to math, reading, science and art skills, our children are taught about cooperation, problem solving, and responsibility. Our students work hard at being positive contributors to our classroom and are always remembering our positive rules at school: always be kind, be safe, and care for our environment.
My Project
Head Start is a program that strongly believes in the importance of family engagement in the success of each and every student. Family engagement promotes positive, enduring change for children, family and communities. Parent and family engagement is about building relationships with families that support well-being for each member, stronger bonds between parent and child, and ongoing development for both parents and children. One way that KRESA Head Start supports these goals with our families is through monthly Parent Meetings at each Head Start site. These meetings are designed to increase parenting skills and family relationships.
We would like to help support and encourage family engagement in our Parent Meetings by providing necessary items for families - in this case, laundry detergent.
By providing an opportunity to receive necessary materials to help run their household, we will also be engaging parents in their children's learning. We understand that it takes commitment on the part of our families to attend these Parent Meetings, as they are held in the evenings. We want to encourage our families and reward them for the investment they are making in the health and well-being of their families!
