This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title I school in a poverty area. Around 95% of students receive free and reduced-priced breakfast and lunch. Many students face various personal challenges even before they get to school. In spite of those challenges, they come to school eager to learn. They enjoy many different activities.
We do a lot with what we have but could do so much more with tools in the classroom and school to help us learn as well as create healthy habits.
My Project
The leveled books will be used during independent reading time. Students will then have access to books on their level to read. This will hopefully help them feel more successful when reading to themselves and/or to a partner during independent reading time.
These leveled books will help each student build confidence and boost their excitement and thirst for reading.
My goal is that these books will inspire my youngest and lowest readers to keep trying until their level is mastered and they can move on to higher reading levels. Students are taught to pick books on their level as well as books that interest them. With these sets of books both of these tasks can be accomplished.
