Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Esports (electronic sports) are organized, multiplayer video game competitions.
Many schools in our district have Esports teams, but we need a starter pack of technology to launch a team at my school, which this donation will provide.
In order to start a new team, we need donations of game consoles (Nintendo switch), several hand held controllers for multiplayer competition and tournaments, and games that are multiplayer used across our district (like Mario Cart, and Mario Smashbrothers). I have TV's to display the games, willing coaches, and willing students but we need the basic equipment listed above in order to get a team started. My students expressed an interest in making a team when our high school won the state Esports competition in Mario Cart. Students would come to my room during lunch to play educational Minecraft on their downtime, inspiring me to launch an official team at my school. I saw students inviting non-English speakers to play, which was the first time I’d seen some of these new students feel like they were part of a group and enjoying themselves. I will provide a space at lunch/after school, coach the team, and set up tournaments.
Students will learn beneficial social skills in working together as a team while they do something they love. Esports is open to all interested students regardless of skill, home language, age or gender.
