My students need an iPad to update our classroom library checkout process . Our current checkout system is outdated and takes too long. This is slowing my students down from getting more books in their hands.
The students at my school are passionate individuals that really just need someone to put time and effort into their education. Last year, they had several teachers come and go which lead to a very inconsistent learning environment and an outlook that school doesn't matter. They are looking for someone to show them how important they are, and how important their education is.
This year, I intend to not only show my students that education matters, but teach them to be accountable for their own learning.
I have already seen so much progress with my students. Our focus this year has been on reading fluency and it has been amazing to watch my students grow as readers. My next step is getting more books into their hands quickly. The more books students are exposed to, the more likely the students will be to find a book they enjoy reading. My goal is to find at least one book that each student can say they enjoyed reading.
My Project
I started the year with many reluctant readers and through a lot of enthusiasm, many of my students are really getting into reading! This is both a blessing and a curse. I love that my students are becoming reading fanatics, but I with my outdated classroom library checkout system I can't keep up with the students checking books out.
A classroom iOad would launch our library into the 21st century by streamlining the classroom book checkout process.
With an Ipad, I would be able to efficiently check books out to students and quickly get them back on my bookshelf when students turn them back in. Right now, I am having trouble training students on the paper checkout system since it takes so much time, but an electronic version would be easy to teach the students.
Additionally, I will be able to allow my students a wider variety of books to read through ebooks on the Ipad. As of right now, students are limited to books in my library and any books they have at home. Many of my students can't afford to buy their own books and have no way of getting to the library. I offer as many options as I can in my classroom library, but I still have many genres that are lacking. For my students really struggling to find a book, perhaps I will be able to find them an ebook that will spark their love of reading.
