My students need a comfortable carpet space to actively engage in launch of daily lessons and classroom discussion. An area they can all sit comfortably to work with individual dry erase boards and turn and talk.
Each child knows they are a valuable member of our whole school community. Our school is in a low income district. Our staff has set high expectations for students and collaboratively worked to make our school one of the top performing schools in the district. Our students value education and strive to achieve every goal they set across all academic areas. Achieving these goals are not always easy as factors outside of school can impact student learning.
Despite these outside factors, my students arrive each day prepared to take risks, overcome obstacles and accept every challenge we place in front of them.
Each student and staff member knows they play a key role in our learning community. Together we learn from mistakes, revisit curriculum and take learning to a whole new level. One team. One goal. No limits.
My Project
A comfortable environment with lots of space to learn is essential to daily lessons. My students are excited about content and enjoy contributing to lessons by sharing strategies on individual dry erase boards and conversing with peers.
Our current meeting space is crammed, we need a larger rug for launch of daily lessons.
Our class needs a rug that would provide students with enough space to sit elbow to elbow, knee to knee during daily literacy lessons. Students should not be distracted by bumping elbows when working diligently to demonstrate math strategies on individual work boards. A larger rug would provide each student with more personal space. A space to keep individual materials handy.
A larger rug will also provide more opportunities for cooperative group work and turn and talk. Conversation provides our English Language Learners with rich learning experiences. Our classroom is currently working to enhance our vocabulary. The rug requested would provide a space for our Word Work Center. Vocabulary card games are much easier to play on the floor where students can sort. Working on desks is difficult, often times cards fall off the desks which make matching games impossible. A larger rug will provide students with enough space for games of concentration without the loss of cards.
Please help us strive to achieve our 2018 learning goals by providing us with a comfy work space.
