My Students
I am a second grade teacher who has spent 21 years in my current school; 20 years in second grade and 1 year in third grade. My school has spent some time as a Title I school as our free and reduced-price lunch percentage is higher than most in our area. Our school building is 50 years old and has some technology that has been funded partially through Title I funds.
We spend a lot of our learning time moving throughout our learning space and using different learning structures to support the needs of our students.
Our theme in our classroom is focused on teamwork and supporting one another. Everywhere you look, you see some piece of the classroom that reminds you of our theme.
My Project
We work very hard to put solid, good quality literature into our students' hands. It is my mission to build a lifelong love of reading in my second graders. We use mentor texts to teach many comprehension and literacy skills.
Quality texts allow for more practice with very important skills to help students become strong readers. The more opportunity students get to practice these skills, the stronger readers they can become.
The cost of providing such literature far exceeds the budgets in schools. Please help me provide a literature-rich environment for my students by allowing quality materials for their growth.
