Our Latin students are public high school students in grades 9-12 in a high-need, rural area of North Carolina. We have many students whose parents have never completed high school nor attended college. About half of our student population is minority, mostly African-American.
Latin students at our school love the online activities available to go with their Latin texts. Potential donors can go to the Cambridge Latin Course website to check out these wonderful online activities.
Students complain that the mice on our computers are broken, however. They get frustrated because they cannot answer their online questions as quickly and easily as they might if the mice worked correctly. They are very frustrated with the equipment at times.
By donating mice for our computers, you will enable my students to make the most of their time with their computers. They will improve their Latin grammar, reading, vocabulary, and other skills in a way that they find fun and relevant. They will do it with ease, because their equipment will work as intended.
Most of my Latin students aspire to a professional career. By funding this project, you will make it possible for my students to prepare themselves for college. Two semesters of the same language are required for college entrance in the UNC system, so success in Latin can mean the difference between whether our graduates can go directly to college or not. Latin vocabulary also helps with English vocabulary development and with understanding medical and legal terms. By funding this project, you will help my Latin students fulfill their dreams!
