"Ugh, I can't even draw a stick figure this class is going to be awful..." If I have a nickel for every time I heard that on the first day of school, I could go on a very nice vacation. As an Art Educator it is my job to show the students that creativity and art are not only drawing something realistically. There are so many facets to art which is what makes Art so fun.
For my beginning and intermediate level students, this year I want to make air dry bowls inspired by the textiles of Latin America and artist Robin Mead.
For this project we will be using air dry clay to make bowls and then neon acrylic paint to finish the bowls off in a style inspired by Robin. With your help students will be able to get their hands a little dirty and create a new type of art that they will get to proudly display at our year end art show in May.
My Project
Art is about so much more than learning to draw realistically. It is my job as my students art teacher to show them that. This project is just one small step in that journey for my students.
This project studies the bright colors, textures, and patterns that are in Latin American textiles.
Students will be studying these textiles and then applying their knowledge of the Elements of Art to create a unique, one of a kind trinket bowl.
Using the materials purchased here, students will use the new florescent acrylic paints, paint brushes and air dry clay to mold their bowls. They will have the opportunity to attach beads, feathers and twine to create an added layer of texture.
These bowls will be put on display at our student lead art show at the end of the year for the community to come and celebrate their accomplishments.
