This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We do lots of small group centers in my classroom. One center that we haven't been able to purchase yet is a listening center. My students need a chance to hear these books read aloud by fluent speakers.

My students come from a high risk, inner city school in the heart of Nevada.

They are 85% ELL and 90% of our students eat free or reduced lunch. They are a very bright group of students who would love this center to go to every day. We do not have a PTA at our school to provide these extra centers.

My Project

When I pull small groups of students over to work with, I have the rest of the class working on independent, rigorous centers. Having these listening centers available will really encourage my students to read aloud fluently after hearing the story read aloud to them. They need to hear that excellent modeling of great readers.

Having this donation will impact my students by allowing them to hear wonderful expression and smoothness and accuracy in the stories that they will listen to.

They will be encouraged to read aloud in the same manner that they heard on the CD which will in turn improve their fluency scores.
