My students need books beyond my previous orders because they have out-read everything I've have. The unprecedented growth this year is because of the influence of the veteran readers on my newer readers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students want more. They are driven and determined and the reading they have accomplished this year has only fueled them to reach beyond the books on my shelves. I must restock with books with more depth and complexity because my students have bumped their heads against my book shelf ceiling.
This will be my last Donorschoose.org project and it is more important than ever that I send my students to their next grades full of words and thoughts and dreams that match their new ambitions, ambitions fueled by books.
In my wildest dreams I never imagined so many of my students would read beyond my last book order. It fits though because in the last year many new authors and established authors have put out new books that are shaping new Young Adult horizons. My students deserve to be part of this movement.
My Project
I feel like crying just writing this. The growth of my students this year has gone beyond anything I ever could have imagined. I'm at a loss for words to describe what it's like to have no idea what to give a 7th grade boy who has already read 15 books and wants another and another and another. Or a 8th grade girl who no longer wants to read about gangs because she's no longer interested in that kind of drama. What do I give an 8th grade boy when he's already read all the books off my shelf? I can't go backwards? They can't read something easier. I must find them more books to last through the next two months. And, let me make this clear, I have no idea what they are capable of finishing in two months, but I don't want a book shelf drought to stand between them and more perspectives, more words, more understanding and more growth.
