Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my fine arts classroom consist of Pre-K through fifth graders. They have the energy and enthusiasm to explore and create but are lacking the supplies to make their ideas come alive. The community my students come from is primarily low income, and 100% of them receive free breakfast and lunch. These students do not have the much-needed supplies or resources they need to succeed, especially in the fine arts. They have virtually no experience or exposure to any arts at home, whether it be art, theater, or even music.
My Project
We are on the last weeks of preparation for our production of Willy Wonka Jr. The Heelys will be used by one of our actors so he can "fly" during the bubbles scene. The candy balloons will be used to decorate the stage and entrance to our show. We will also be using cardstock to create Wonka themed invitations to send out to our VIP guests.
My students will assist in the designing and construction of invitations using the brown cardstock and gold paper to look like "Wonka Bars".
The students are part of every aspect of our production and are learning the ins and outs of theatre. All of this will help them be better leaders and citizens.
