Laser Etching Our Future

Help me give my students a new laser cutter that we can use in our classroom to explore and create projects that tie into various classroom curricula!

My Students

"What are we learning today?" That's something that I hear from my students every day before they even enter the classroom. No matter what kind of morning they've had, they come to school with an enthusiasm that never ceases to astonish me.

My students are diverse with various learning needs and challenges.

We are a Title I school, helping to meet the needs of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. My students are hardworking, inspired students who amaze me every single day. I look forward to providing them with everything they deserve to have, including a classroom where they can all feel safe, understood, and accepted for exactly who they are.

My Project

My students and I have been so fortunate to have a laser cutter in our classroom for the past couple of years. We've been able to create some incredible projects during that time! The issue is that we're burning through laser tubes like crazy! It was something that we didn't anticipate when we first got the laser cutter.

After discussing with other teachers, I've found that of those that have laser cutters, a Glowforge by far has the highest of approvals.

With this project, I'm requesting a Glowforge as the quality and length of time that they last will far exceed what we're using now! With a new laser cutter, we'll be able to both 2D and 3D (models) utilizing wood or cardboard of different concepts that students are learning about in the class. Whether it's designing an animal cell in Tinkercad or creating a movable representation of planets, students will be able to share their learning with me and others around the school!
