My Students
My students are growing up in a rural community in Southeast Iowa. Because we are a small K-12 school and use school-wide interventions and extensions, teachers see students from many different grade levels daily. My students, whether from my homeroom or from another grade, want to grow as learners in ways that make them feel successful. They are passionate young people who love sharing their personal experiences, goals, dreams, and successes with me. I want my students to have a central space in our classroom that gives them room to have many different learning experiences!
My Project
The carpet is such an important place for learning in my classroom. When students come to the carpet, it is a time for them to get up close and personal with their learning experiences. We often play games, handle manipulatives, and read together at this central location.
When students come to the carpet, I want them to have enough space to be successful with their learning.
My current carpet is small and causes students to feel cramped-- it cannot fit more than about a dozen 3rd grade bodies. With a new carpet, my students will be able to control their bodies, engage in learning activities, and be comfortable in their learning environment.
