"One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world." Malala Yousafzai is credited with saying these words, yet she echoes the sentiment of thousands of teachers and children as they head into the classroom each day. Though I teach 28 unique individuals reading, writing and math, I realize the importance of sharing with them the lessons that they will take with them for the rest of their lives. Students teach me lessons too, and we all win.
My Project
Where and how a student sits in the classroom is almost as important as what a student learns. When a child can choose a location to sit and a manner in which he would like to sit, classoom engagement is exceptional! Students enjoy sitting in wobble seats and chair cushions because they can be comfortable while working, all the while getting the wiggles out! Some of my students need to manage the external stimuli and enjoy using a sensory ball or a chew stixx to help them maintain focus. These little extras help some students stay engaged a little longer.
