There are approximately 450 students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade, most of whom are from low-income families. We are a Title I school in which 100% of students receive a free breakfast, lunch and snack daily. Our school is located in a Joliet, Illinois, in an area that is both rural and urban. Our student population is comprised of 50% African American students, 40% Hispanic students and 7% Caucasian students and 3% mixed races.
Our students have spunk, a thirst for learning, and a deep desire to excel academically and in extracurricular activities.
My Project
Our school's Drama Club includes about sixty 3rd through 8th-grade students that successfully complete an audition workshop. Our Fine Arts program is highly valued so we want to continue to provide enriching experiences to those students interested in producing the musical, The Jungle Book KIDS, this spring.
Being a member of the Drama Club gives our students the opportunity to explore and share their vocal, acting, dancing, and artistic talents, practice social skills and make new friends.
The Drama Club directors work to offset costs by borrowing, and asking for donations of, paint for sets, various clothing items for costumes, and household items for props, so that students can have an authentic experience on stage. A team of supportive family members and staff volunteer their time to help during rehearsals and shows. It is a true team effort. With your support, and the addition of The Jungle Book KIDS Showkit, we will ensure that the success and pride students, staff, families, and directors have in our phenomenal actors and actresses, continues to positively impact our school community!
