58% of my sixth grade students are on the free and reduced lunch program, but that doesn't stop them from being curious and loving science. They work hard, take responsibility for their learning, and need access to technology in my classroom.
My main goal for my students is to teach them how to learn independently because once you know how to learn, you can do anything in life.
I believe that by giving students a choice of how they want to learn and creating an individualized path for their learning, they will be more engaged and gain a passion for learning.
My Project
Currently, my students only have access to my teacher computer to do research, simulations, and online activities in my classroom. I would love to have four laptops in my science lab, so I will be able to better differentiate instruction, provide student choice in modes of learning, and promote higher and more complex thinking.
Having laptops in my science lab will allow my students an opportunity to work individually and collaboratively to deepen their knowledge and love of science.
With the laptops, my students will be able to do many things including research, participating in simulations, and producing creative projects.
One of my goals this year is to allow my students to create individualized learning paths, and the laptops will be an integral part of this. Having access to four laptops will allow a few students to use them one at a time, or small groups will be able to use them collaboratively.
