My students are a vibrant group of kids. They love exploration and have questions about everything! When a question comes up and none of us knows the answer, they go about researching the answer. My students are gregarious, easy going, and completely engaged in learning. They love their school, their friends, and their teacher. I in turn, adore every minute I get to spend with them!
Most of my students have two working parents and as you can imagine, with both parents working to make ends meet, there is not a lot of time left over for extending students' vocabulary and learning beyond the classroom.
It is, therefore, imperative I provide the richest educational experience that I can.
My Project
Students today are immersed in technology from the time they are born. As an educator, I want to harness that familiarity and engagement to use in the classroom. Providing an environment of one to one computing in the classroom increases student performance, engagement, and helps them learn how to use technology properly.
As students use technology, like Chromebooks, as a source for learning, they become self-directed learners.
Students need to learn how to use technology in productive ways. Most students know how to use computers and cell phones to access games, but few know how to harness technology to help them learn and prepare for real world applications for future careers. The earlier students can start learning these educational applications, the richer their technological futures will be!
Hurricane Harvey set us back a little this year. Some students still express their emotions in their writing about those dark days of the hurricane. Needless to say, studying weather has been a big interest for students this year. They want to understand why this happened to our community and even understand other communities and the weather related disasters they have survived. We have used education, hard work, determination, and courage to bounce back.
