"In an effective classroom
students should not only know what they are doing,
they should also know why and how."
My students are children from the Bronx who are dancers and artists.
They come from low income families and many of them have either immigrated or are first generation Americans. Many of my students do not have computers or technology that will allow them to optimize their education.
Many times in our society we think of education as children rehearsing facts. It is important that students know why they are learning to further their interest in their own education. These laptops, if funded, will allow my students to open their minds and seek out different paths to their own education. I work in an inner city school where some students do not have computers at home and are therefor unable to tap into the Internet as a resource. In a world where technology reigns supreme it is unfair that students from low income families be deprived the chance to have a successful future.
Please fund this project which will help provide an opportunity for my students to succeed.
The laptops will help them and their parents by opening doors that have previously be closed. Thank you for your consideration.
