My students need laptops in order to complete individualized assignments out of the classroom, when the classroom environment has become unsafe for learning. This often happens due to emotional behaviors.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is for students with emotional and behavior disorders, we have one 1st grader, two 3rd graders, and two 5th graders. My students have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey as we are located in the Port of Houston area, and as a result we have struggled as a class to make the school year comfortable and growth oriented. Even months later, the hurricane and the devastation it brought are topics of discussion and reflection.
My classroom requires a high level of individualization and flexibility, this allows for both personal and academic growth for students who often struggle in more way than one.
The mixture of grade levels in my classroom can pose as a difficulty when it comes to teaching and planning, but the small ratio allows for close relationships and rigorous lessons.
My Project
The nature of my classroom is unpredictable, and as a result some days are less productive than others. When one of my students has become upset to the point that it is disrupting others, or making the environment unsafe, the rest of my class is removed from the room. This often means taking them away from the desktop computers that contain their individualized assignments, or leaving behind vital paper assignments in the rush. It's unfair and makes makes the task of maximizing instructional time unnecessarily difficult.
The benefit of laptops is that students can complete individual assignments in a flexible manner, in or out of our designated classroom.
This will allow more time to be spent on learning and less time to be spent on recreating lessons and materials when the classroom has become disadvantageous.
