Help me give my students access to technology. Chromebooks will be used so my students will be able to do research projects, play math and reading games during guided math and type research papers.
My students are incredible humans. They are all indigenous, Blackfeet and Crow, going to school here on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Browning Montana. This is my second year with my students, as I looped from 2nd grade. I have seen such incredible gains especially in math and reading.
Each student has overcame historical trauma and personal issues in their home lives, as many of them do not have stable homes.
They come to school every single day with a bright mind and a positive attitude. They are resilient, as even though they have such immense issues in their lives, they can make the best of it with each new day. They are hard workers and often won't hand in work until it is perfect. They strive for excellence in hopes of making their hometown a better place.
My students work in guided math and guided reading workshop groups. They have a love for education. We implemented a "Shape Up 150" Program in our curriculum, and the students love getting up to do physical movement throughout instruction.
My Project
Will there be time to work on Laptops?
That is the most asked question in our classroom.
We have 5 Chrome Books that we share among out 22 students throughout the day for our core subject areas of math, reading and Social studies/Science. Our students are bright and have a thirst for knowledge. They have a desire to succeed every day, especially when given time to do research to broaden their knowledge. Our children are some of the most generous and giving children that I have had the pleasure to work with. They value time given to work on laptops, since many do not have the accessibility at home.
This is the first year our students will be taking the 3rd grade state assessment in March. I feel like our children need all the practice on Laptops that they can get. They will need to know how to do a search, how to copy, highlight, paste, and how to type.
This year there are Social Studies Projects that I have planned for the children to work on and create.
One of the projects involve the children researching ancient civilizations. They will study ancient Mayan, Aztec, Incan, and other civilizations. It is hard for them to really indulge in reseach when we only ave 5 laptops for my 22 students. Three more will help immensely.
The children are so very grateful for any time they are given to work on laptops, and they would be over the moon if they were given these laptops.
