Our students are tough as nails but have hearts of gold. The school has a 100% free/reduced lunch and over 90% African American, inner-city demographic. Our students struggle daily from the ill effects of generational poverty and generational illiteracy. We have many parents who want to help, but they just don't know how. The obstacles these kids face every day is enough to break even the toughest hearts, and their perseverance and tenacity are more inspiring than they can ever imagine.
My Project
In this digital age, computer literacy is a crucial component of any school's learning objectives. It is imperative that students learn to type efficiently and that they know how to use common apps and software like Google and Microsoft Office. Many teachers rely on quality laptops to deliver the best education possible to all of their kids. This is why it was so heartbreaking to discover that our school was broken into the day before school was set to begin for the year and that nearly all of the student and teacher laptops were stolen!
Without access to effective, up-to-date technology, the students at Clark Prep, many of whom are already at an economic disadvantage within the city, will suffer academically.
