Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn and have persevered through many obstacles that city children face just to be in school.
Every day my students come to class with smiles on their faces despite the outside challenging lives many of them experience.
The breakdown of students at my Title I school is as follows: Asian: 5%, Black: 28%, Hispanic: 61%, White: 3%, English Language Learners: 7%, Student with Special Needs: 19%. Approximately 92% of my students receive free lunch. My students commute from Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island to come to school each day; sometimes their trips are longer than an hour. Although my students face many adversities, they are dedicated to their education and their academics. I want to do as much as I can to help make sure they are successful and happy while they are in the school building.
My Project
Many of my students do not have computer access at home, and our school lacks a full time computer lab. With a set of 3 Chromebooks in my classroom, my students would be able to work independently with technology during my Special Education Teacher Support Service Class.
Technology provides access for students with disabilities and can foster a collaborative learning and working environment.
Through the use of different applications and programs on these laptops, students can work on improving their reading and writing levels, study for exams, research colleges, type assignments, and much more. My goal is to help give my students access to items that they need, but cannot afford.
