I have a very excitable group of first graders who aren’t afraid to make mistakes. They have learned to become risk takers this year because we learn through mistakes. We’ve learned that our actions have positive consequences and negative consequences.
We have learned that even though we come from different backgrounds and experiences, we are still family.
They learn best through hands-on learning.
My students rarely miss school because they truly love learning. They are like sponges and are constantly wanting more. My first graders are at different learning levels. Some need reteaching of a skill, while others need the extra encouragement for enrichment.
Teachers are constantly faced with the challenge of competing with technology.
My students would benefit from having extra laptops in the classroom to ensure that they are able to interface with technology each day.
The students will use the laptop for research stations, typing projects or publishing writing. They will also use it for research based learning programs such as MyOn and I-ready. This would be a resource that would help me as a teacher differentiate my learners. The digital technology would help support a variety of academic abilities through easy access to these programs, which allows me to meet with small groups as needed.
