I teach STEM/Project Lead the Way at a public school that serves students in preschool through fifth grade. My school is so much more than a school, we are family. Our motto is "Whatever it takes, our kids are worth it". Almost 90% of my students qualify for free/reduced-price lunch, but we do not let this hold us back! Last school year due to the hard work of my K-5 students, our Project Lead the Way program was the only Elementary program in KY that was recognized as a "Distinguished School". Even though my students have a lot to overcome, they never hold back and always work to be successful.
Seeing my students' drive to become "future engineers" has inspired me to help further their learning by sponsoring a robotics team next year.
The goal of this robotics team will be to further their engineering experience, build leadership skills and help improve their social interactions while working as a team.
My Project
I am working to form our school's first ever competitive VEX IQ Robotics Team. My PLTW students have the passion and drive to be successful and it is my responsibility to continue to give them opportunities to learn and grow. In order to help them on their journey I am sponsoring a brand new Robotics team at our school.
To compete, students must research, design, and program their own robots, as well as research and present a STEM project.
Our team will need two laptops for students to use to program their robots for competition and to conduct research for their STEM project.
These laptops will allow students to work as a team to autonomously program their robots to compete in the VEX IQ Next Level Challenge. Students will also be able to use the laptops to research a STEM topic and work as a team to present research for their project.
