My Students

My school is a free public charter school with a focus in arts integration located in Fayetteville, NC. TCEA has been open for five years, it is a Title I school, and 51% of our student body qualifies for the free/reduced lunch program. The student body has a diverse social and economic background; families travel from six counties to reach school each day. The Capitol has been open for five years, and the 2018-2019 school year is only the second year for middle school grades (6-8). TCEA middle school students are given the opportunity to attend Visual Arts, Dance, Music, Theatre, and STEAM class as an elective.

I want to help my students develop a passion for Math and make real world connections.

My sixth and seventh grade students are often hesitant to learn math and explore new skills in this subject area because many of them the subject difficult.

My Project

These laptops will allow my students to practice skills we are covering in class, and it will also allow them the opportunity to receive differentiated instruction. These laptops will help increase understanding of more difficult concepts and also help fill in the knowledge deficits to facilitate increased state scores.

My seventh grade classes are also part of a research study called ASSISTments that requires students to receive online assignments at least three days per week.

Some of my students do not have internet access at home, so these laptops will enable ALL of my students to complete these assignments online.
