Students in my school come from various backgrounds. We have a high ENL population where students are learning languages such as Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Spanish, Urdu, and more. I love teaching lessons that are engaging and motivational. To do this, I take students' interests into account, including usage of visuals, technology, hands-on experiences, field trips, etc.
I love attending professional developments and engaging in research that revolves around innovative teaching practices.
I feel that it is important to always continue learning and to take outside learning experiences from professional developments that I attend into account and into play.
My Project
I am a lifelong learner and am constantly researching timely and relevant activities to engage my students, particularly those with special needs.
I want to continue my research to find exciting activities for my students.
I plan to do this through online tutorials and related webinars that will help me with my teaching practice. A laptop will allow me to do this to bring back what I have found and learned to my students. This laptop would also help me with my current research project that I am partaking in that revolves around math. A group of teachers and I have been collecting articles for review that we have been reviewing as a team to discuss as a group to better our practice. With that, we are trying out different online math programs that would be suitable for our students. This laptop will help me try out these programs to help me make an informed decision about which would work best for our students.
Many of the workshops that I attend require me to travel by train and/or subway--so this light laptop would be very useful in my travels in that it is light and efficient. I also attend important meetings within my school related to special education. Again, the portability of this laptop would be extremely helpful to me.
