My students come from the Excelsior neighborhood in San Francisco - they are mostly from working-class families. The student population is made up of mostly Asian American and Hispanic students. Over 50% of the students at my school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
I believe that all students, regardless of economic or social background, should have access to great education and teachers that care about their success.
Every day, I want my students to spend their limited time in the school doing things that are going to help them achieve their goals. I am very excited for the year to start!
In my tenth grade biology class, my students often use laptops to run simulations, analyze data from labs, and to write reports. Unfortunately, one of our laptops from our class set was lost. This does not only affect my students, but all of the students in the high school as this was a set used by the science department for all the science classes.
I want to replace this laptop so that my students will all be able to work on what we are doing in class in an equitable setting.
None of my students have their own electronic devices so missing one laptop means that one student will be left out of the activity.
