Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Since I am a teacher of Debate, Public Speaking, and English, I am responsible for teaching my students how to be effective communicators in the world they face everyday. One of the most important aspects of learning to speak and debate is learning how to research and having the tools to obtain the research necessary for presentations and speeches. If we don't have access to research in these classes, we having nothing, essentially. Our school does have a very nice media center, but since we have a huge student population, our classes have difficulty “getting a spot” so that we can research without competing with other classes which vitally need the library as well. I believe that if we had a laptop, we could connect to our internet service from my classroom,and I could start and build upon a very nice media center within my own classroom so that my students (especially those who have no internet access at home) could do research while I assisted them individually during class time. I have approximately 120 students per day, and I feel that this would HIGHLY benefit our Speech and Debate program at Starkville High School! Thank you for your consideration!
