Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My high school is technology challenged. We have a serious shortage of useful computers with current software and ability to connect to the internet. It is a high school career academy and as such, our students need to be prepared to deal with the real world they can expect when they enter their chosen careers.
My department chair has gained access to an LCD projector, but my current desktop computer is old and does not have the necessary connectors to operate the projector for making presentations for the class. Sadly, I am currently reduced to considering "dust free chalk" as high tech in my classroom. I feel that my students would respond positively to Power Point Presentations and being able to download various resources from the internet for display for the students.
In addition, this would provide a working computer that could access the internet and allow students in my classroom to use it for research purposes, thus creating the ability for students to engage in independent research projects, large and small in the classroom. This specifically is a valuable tool for students to master in order to be successful in the 21st century.
In a modern history classroom, my students are currently getting a learning experience that is sadly lacking for the year 2005. A laptop with current software would provide a valuable resource that would update the learning experience. I teach over 100 students per day in U.S. History and I would like to enable them to use this resource for researching historical topics and making presentations to the class.
