My students need portable lap desks in order to work in small groups effectively. With a class of 32 students and 2 teachers small group work will be an everyday occurrence in our classroom.
I am the the special education teacher assigned to this fourth grade class. I previously taught this group of youngsters when they were in first grade. They are an exceptional group of children who graciously support and encourage each another. I am so looking forward to building more memories and enriching learning experiences with these beautiful young souls.
Our students come from a variety of econo mic and cultural backgrounds.
This class in particular is quite diverse. During our morning meeting in first grade the class would learned how to say "Good Morning" in 12 different languages. The students would beam with pride sharing their native language and hearing it spoken by all.
The class has grown in size this past year and is now comprised of 32 students. Reading levels in the class range from kindergarten to sixth grade. With such a range of academic levels, we must strive to provide students with ways accessing general education content in different ways.
My Project
Our class is comprised of 32 students and 2 teachers. In order to effectively support the struggling students we will need to pull small groups to reteach and practice certain skills. In a class of 32 a small group is often 10-14 students. There is not a table big enough in our room to seat them at, and many have a hard time sitting on the carpet with a clip board.
Lap desks will provide students with a comfortable place to focus on their work in a small group or independently.
They are stackable and children will have the freedom to independently use one when they needed. These lap desks can also be used for assessments and independent work.
These lap desks will be used on a daily ba sis and facilitate learning in our fourth grade classroom.
