My classroom is full of 19 excited kindergartners! These students come to school each day looking forward to learning and experiencing new things! I enjoy providing my students with the opportunities they may not have had before! My teaching style includes lots of hands-on and interactive activities. I also use a variety of literacy stations. My literacy stations include writing, library, sensory, listening, work working and more for my students. I also use hands-on math and science centers!
We are a Title I school and many students in our school come from lower income households.
100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch through grants our county has received. My goal is to provide all of my students with the opportunity to be successful regardless of their background situation.
Our school is a welcoming environment and we work hard to ensure our students are safe and excited about learning! We use a school-wide positive behavior plan to encourage our students to make good choices, to be respectful and responsible, as they continue to grow and further their education.
My Project
Whether my students are working in groups, independently or at a station, they are wiggly! Five year olds are not made to just sit in a seat all day. I use a variety of activities and stations in my classroom to break our day up and this allows my students time to be moving around. We have bean bags in our classroom library center and cushioned cozy seats at our listening station.
My kindergarten students are active learners and they need options when sitting in their traditional seat just isn't working for them.
There are times in our day when students are sitting at their table to work, but this just isn't great for some students. They need options to sit in different positions to be more comfortable and and this will lead to more success! Lap desks would give my students a different place to sit while still having the stability of a table to complete tasks. Instead of wiggling, adjusting, standing up, turning around, leaning their chair back or any other moves they come up with, my students will have an option that will allow them to focus on their writing and work instead of their chair!
Each year I have students that may have special needs or have been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD. Sitting in traditional seats is even more difficult for them. The lap desks will help tremendously in allowing these students an opportunity to focus on their learning. My goal is to offer multiple flexible seating options for all of my students in our classroom and these lap desks will be a perfect addition to meet this goal!
