Language Master Cards to Reinforce Language Skills

I began this school year teaching at Glynn Brock Elementary School in Slidell, Louisiana. Hurricane Katrina caused about five feet of water to completely destroy my classroom. Everything that I have purchased, inherited from generous teachers, or created in my five-year career as a teacher was ruined by the floodwaters. I was able to only save enough to fit in a backpack. My losses are not insured. Thankfully, my job was spared, and I was transferred to Woodlake Elementary - another school in the district. I now teach sixteen Transitional First Grade students, all of whom were affected to varying degrees by Hurricane Katrina. These children have been through so much, yet have shown so much resiliency.
Transitional First Grade students need an extra year developmentally before they are ready for first grade. The curriculum is centers-based. Because I have lost so many things, it is difficult to create a classroom environment that these children need. Due to the financial impact that the hurricane has placed on our school system, I am having to purchase all materials out of my own pocket.
In my classroom, I am lucky to have a Califone Card Master Card Reader. This is a tool that will read cards that have a special magnetic strip on the bottom. I am able to record my voice on the cards. The students can also record their voices on the cards.
I would like to purchase some blank cards to use with my Card Master. This would allow me to create specific cards to go with the curriculum that I am using. The children would be able to see the letter, word, or sentence and in my voice hear me read it to them. I can also give the children cards that I have written on, and have them record their reading of it. This will serve as a permanent record of their language skills. These cards could be used in the classroom for reinforcing many different skills.
I would also like to purchase a pre-made set of cards titled, "Learning the Alphabet". This set of cards already has pictures and words pre-printed.
I feel that these cards would be a great benefit to the children in my classroom. The children love to use the Card Master and would benefit from a structured use of it during their center time.
