Help me give my students a projector and headphones for the classroom to assist them in learning English and participating in essential classroom activities.
I am a English Language Learner (ELL) teacher at an inner-city high school. My students are from all over the world and speak a variety of different languages. We have a large population of Hispanic students who speak Spanish. It is my job to help them to learn English.
Typically, my students are initially shy and withdrawn and afraid to speak.
But once they master even a few sentences in English, they break out of their shells and are anxious to learn more. Most are lovable and sweet and really appreciate help.
My Project
One of the tools we use to teach English to English Language Learners is a computer software program that relies heavily on the use of an overhead projector and speaker type headphones. For example, students are asked to follow along with me as I direct their attention to various PowerPoint presentations that describe that day's learning target such as introductions. They are then asked to participate by responding to exercises. Some of these exercises require headphones with microphones to respond to questions. The projector and headphones will make a huge difference in my students' ability to effectively learn English.
Both the projector and the headphones are essential tools to have for them to use the English language program and to participate in the learning modules.
