Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I would like to request a digital camera for use with my students. I have a group of Special Education High School Students ranging from low to moderate functioning abilities. Most of the students have problems putting their thoughts into words. I have borrowed a digital camera for outings and have been positively amazed at the excitement and verbal communications that piece of equipment elicits. The use of a camera excites them and makes them want to talk. We have taken this a step further to make a power point of our outing to the NC Aquarium. The students wanted to take that presentation home to share with their parents. The chatter after the trip about the pictures and which to use in the presentation was almost as great as the chatter on the trip. We do community outings once a week, to local resources and places that will assist them in making the transition from school to adult life. Having a digital camera to capture some of the sights, signs and information will give us an opportunity to again make a power point presentation that will be a huge asset in the classroom. Much of what we learn in the classroom must relate directly to the community and adult living. For the above stated reasons I would like to request a digital camera. When purchasing a camera for them I would request one that has a disc or CD to hold the pictures instead of a memory card. Cameras that take the image straight from the Camera to the PC without extra cords and steps will be easier for these students to use. Thank you for considering my request.
