My students have delayed speech and language skills, and are working hard to become better communicators.
I work with 62 creative and motivated speech and language impaired students who are identified as Communication Disordered.
They are hard working students who attend an urban arts focus elementary school, grades kindergarten through fifth. Some of my students are in self contained classrooms and other students are in regular education classrooms and receive special education support.
My Project
My students will work on improving their language skills by writing and performing puppet shows. These puppet shows will incorporate scripts that have been written together targeting their communication goals. These goals will include word meaning and grammar forms along with targeted sounds they are working on in articulation therapy. Social language skills will also be reinforced by role playing appropriate ways to interact with each other using the people puppets.
Having a set of colorful puppets for my students to create and retell stories to practice their targeted language skills will help them become better communicators.
These motivating puppets will also allow my students to role play social language situations.
