Located in our nation's capital, my Title I school serves the needs of a diverse community of students and families, particularly English language learners. In my current classroom, at least six different languages are spoken among all of my students, each of them equally beautiful and complex.
At the beginning of my year, it is difficult for my students to speak with one another because of the obvious language barriers but as a family, we develop a sense of vulnerability and safety, and together we learn to make mistakes and trust one another.
Through this process, I see my students begin to develop friendships, despite their inability to fully communicate through words. This is one of the most humbling, profound experiences to witness, and it cannot fairly be described by the limitations of my own language.
I am proud to serve my students and will continue to work with my families to improve the well being of all people in fair, respectful ways.
My Project
Third grade is more rigorous than ever. With new demands on students, the standards that they must achieve by the end of the year can be challenging, but not impossible to reach. I do my best as their teacher to ensure that every child is thriving and has grown tremendously before leaving my classroom.
To support my students in every aspect of their literacy development, I need to provide them with all of the resources necessary to reach their full potential.
I am requesting several student workbooks to support classroom instruction. The workbooks include titles like Lumos Skills Mastery tedBook, 180 Days of Reading for Third Grade, Third Grade Reading Success, and Scholastic Success with Reading Comprehension. These books align with highly effective instructional techniques that help to reinforce essential concepts that lead students to master new content.
Students will be able to use these workbooks as lesson supplements and as materials to support their independent study habits. Because these workbooks include answer pages, students can enjoy monitoring their growth before moving on to the next skill. These resources will surely allow my students to meet their potential!
