Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a third grade, Title I, elementary school in the less desirable part of the neighborhood. What these students are lacking in the pleasurable things of life, they make up for with desire and the will to improve. Although these students do not experience much of the finer things of life, they want to learn.
In our world, our 3rd-grade classrooms, we are a tight-knit group of students.
With that said, the majority of these students work hard to be a better part of the community. They want to improve their lives and know knowledge is the way.
We work hard every day to learn and express who we are. We are made up of a group of academic support students, who push in from their special education full-time classroom, as well as general education students. We are Hispanic, Caucasian, African, Native American, and Asian. We speak multiple languages and need multiple things to help us get through our day. We speak the language of acceptance and love, and that is what holds us together. We work hard from the moment we get to school to the moment we leave. It is our goal
My Project
What do you remember about your childhood? I want to create some memories for my students that make learning enjoyable for them. I teach third grade at a very high poverty school in Utah where more than 80% of my students are on free and reduced lunch. The only consistency in many of my student’s life is school!
My students don't get to experience many enjoyable things in life!
Do you like to look at pictures of your childhood? Most of my students don’t have art in their home. With crayons, glitter glue, pencils for each student to use throughout our class, my students would be able to work individually and collaboratively together to enhance their learning through expression of art. For example, when learning out fractions or perimeter and area students can use these supplies as manipulatives to draw and visualize their math problems demonstrating their learning and understanding of these types of concepts.
Your generous donation will help to bring fun to school, again! It will also be able to create memories for my students that they can keep with them for life by preparing them for the working world of the 20th century! Please help!
