Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We provide a rigorous bilingual academic program that prepares all of our students for global citizenship in the 21st century. In the school, we have 97% of the student population who participate in the free and reduced lunch program. Student demographics consist of 91% Latino/Hispanic, 4% Black, 3% White, and 2% Asian. My students love to learn and have the desire to learn. My students struggle with cooperative learning, health, and fitness. They strive to grow as individuals each and every day.
My Project
Our middle school track team arrives at the school at 7:30am. An hour before everyone else gets here to practice for track and field. They work hard but we don't have the proper equipment for them to practice correctly. As with most schools, our funding was cut and our equipment is old. As of now, our landing mats are ripped and torn. Really, we should have tossed them out years ago but we can't because we have nothing to replace them with.
We need new equipment in order to practice and compete with the best!
A landing mat and a new climbing rope is what we need to keep our students safe, practice properly and build strength. If my project gets funded, I envision putting the landing mat and climbing rope to good use. We can now practice and compete on our high jump with the proper equipment. If our project gets funded then we can replace the old with the new and start practicing right!
