My students need durable math centers. I have requested a laminator and thermal pouches to allow me to create math centers that will last the school year and longer.

I will be starting my 4th year teaching this fall in a high poverty urban district. This year my focus is to improve my math instruction. A laminator will help me create more meaningful independent math centers and allow me more time for small group instruction.
I work in a great school.
The teachers and staff are extremely dedicated and hard working. Our class sizes in Grade One range from 24-27 students. However, our population is transient throughout the school year. The students come from all types of households. However, most are very poor. Out of 24 students last year, 18 received free lunch, 5 received reduced lunch, and 3 were full pay. Our Grade One field trip was to the zoo. For many of my students, this was their first time visiting a zoo.
The laminator and pouches will be used to help create durable math and literacy centers. My students will use the centers independently to help retain concepts learned throughout the year. Without lamination, the activities do not last. I have several engaging games that allow my students to practice the concepts I have taught. I look forward to creating additional centers.
Being the new teacher on the block, my classroom is not as well stocked as my colleagues.
Having laminated centers and games will allow my students more access to different games and centers. I will use the laminator to create the games and centers I feel are necessary to help my students master the grade level curriculum.
